Maple Syrups have for long been used as an effective replacement for sugar. Originally grown in Europe, the syrup today has found wide applications in recipes across the globe. Maple syrup is the ideal accompaniment to many delicacies such as pancakes, waffles, toasts or on its own as sweet. However, maple syrup should never be confused with blended pancake syrups or toppings as these are usually made from corn syrup or cane sugar syrup flavored with 1-3% maple syrup.

In order to have the best maple syrups for use in recipes it is important that care be taken to store them properly so that they can be prevented from the effects of air, time and temperature.

Glass is known to maintain the flavor of maple syrup indefinitely. However, it is a costly way of packaging and is often seen in gift packs. Another commonly used material for storing maple syrup is Tin which maintains the syrup quality for about 11-12 months. Incidentally, one of the best and popularly used materials for storage is Plastic containers. Plastic is light weight and very easy to use.
