Maple syrup is widely used as a sweetener; substitute for sugar and as baking ingredients. You can either buy in small amount or in bulk as it is easy to store. The pure syrup is very expensive and you would not afford to spoil it due to sheer negligence. Unopened container of maple syrup if kept in a cool dark place shall remain in a good condition for at least a year. But some prefer to refrigerate it even if the seal is not open.

Store the syrup in the refrigerator after use, the best place to store is the freezer. Properly made pure maple syrup do not freeze and can be kept in the freezer indefinitely. The syrup which freezes should be defrosted before use for its vicious nature and difficult to pour when frozen.

Callously stored maple syrup may sometimes develop moldy toxins on the top. Remove the layer of mold and bring the syrup to boil, wash and dry the container properly and refill it with hot syrup. If you find change in the taste discard it immediately.

Syrup packaged in tin or glass can be stored for 1 year. But those packaged in plastic “breaths” should be repackaged in a clean ½ pint, pint or quart glass freezer jars to one inch from the top and freeze to retain its quality.
