Cream Syrups – A Great Product |
Cream Syrup was used for the first time in a Cincinnati pharmacy, that was run by a Mr. C. A. Smith, sometime in the early 1800's. The main idea behind, using milk and cream syrups was that they were perceived to be very healthy to drink. |

-
1 Pint Fresh Milk

Procedure:
Mix by shaking, and keep in a cool place. The addition of a few grains of bicarbonate of soda will for some time retard souring. Do not apply heat to dissolve the sugar, try dissolving as much sugar as possible in the milk before adding the cream. The bicarbonate of soda is added, to avoid the souring of the cream in the syrup. It keeps the perception of freshness, even though the bacteria begins to sour the cream. |
